Great video to learn on. On a smaller dept you will very seldom have this senerio, very helpful to keep in mind the temp of his gear. Thanks!

After being involved in a similiar scenario with a downed firefighter, I agree about the super heated gear. Purple Nitrile Gloves are going to melt and EMS providers become burn victims. Can't do much with hand injury. Another thought (if the firefighter is not in cardiac arrest) and the down firefighter's gear is super heated, proper gear removal will lessen the severity of his thermal burns. Globe offers training on gear removal.

I understand your intentions were about gear removal but want to add some thought on the EMS seeing you published it. Gear removal is not the priority in a firefighter cardiac arrest. Getting him opened up to work on him is. This also allows time for gear cooling. Scizzor removal is easier. ABC's... Airway wins and you had some issues. The medic's skills are best positioned on the airway to secure an advanced ET. CPR was forgotten but that happens with a two man crew. We always need more manpower. I personally love the IO for quick access.

One comment guys. If that firefighter came out of a burning building, he may be extremely hot. You may want to get yourself some mechanics gloves to wear while you take off his gear. Your ems gloves are going to melt when you touch him. Especially his helmet, which is the first thing you take off.
