This is part of a training program that first hit the USA called "Calling the Mayday". It takes firefighters a bunch of times, of repeatedly falling through a floor and responding with the critically important Mayday Call.

It is easy to say, what you would do if this really happened but that is not usually what firefighters do. First instinct is to get yourself out of trouble wasting valuable time for the RIT to get in, and firefighters might be overstressed and forget to call the mayday.

Keep training brothers!

i wasnt hurt doing this. it was part of a maze that the guys had built at the station where we're supposed to follow 200 feet of hose up stairs, through walls, under tables, over and under rafters and then of course through a false floor. its about a 3 foot fall onto foam and a mattress so its not bad.

I think it is a good thing to build in. In a real fire, you don't get the luxury of do overs. It teaches you to be ready for anything. I don't think he was at risk of being hurt, it doesn't look like he fell more then a foot or so. But you need to know how to react in a situation like that, and that if you fall thru, you need to call a MAYDAY!!! Better to call off a mayday, then to never have called it and end up in a pine box.
