After ignoring Mesa County Sheriffs Officers, a man tries to run into a freezing lake to save his dog and tonight he is behind bars. A frantic owner called 911 at 3:00 p.m. Saturday December 20, 2008, saying his dog fell through the ice. When Clifton and the Mesa County Sheriff''s Office got there, they found the dog in the water, and its owners very upset. As they waited for the Grand Junction Fire Department's Water Rescue Team, the pet's owner, 42-year-old Theodore Wilson, cussed at officials on scene for not trying to save his dog and then made a mad dash for the water in an attempt to do it himself. The Sheriff's Officers tackled him sending all of them into the icy water. As the man was led away in cuffs rescue crews arrived on scene. Moments later the dog was rescued but not before it bit its rescuer on the hand. Wilson is facing charges of failure to obey a lawful order and obstruction of police and fire operations.

I find it really interesting that in my experience, the rescue of an animal often stirs up more emotions than the rescue of a human. Whilst it does happen, it's not often we get this sort of response/reaction from the public when udnertaking any other kind of rescue.

What a bunch. No manners, no literacy, no brains. They wasted more time yelling and cussing when they could have been getting a sled themselves, or at least not obstructing the situation. I think it is quite telling that the dog does not go right to his "family" when he gets out of the water, he goes way off to the side. As if he's thinking he doesn't want to be near his owners at all. Congratulations to the police and fire rescue who put up with this nonsense without "giving back what they got".

What an idiot. no thanks to the people that GOT THE DOG OUT OF WATER. Pure white trash. Those guys doin the rescue did a good job. the cops were right and made sure there were'nt more victims. I wonder how " Mr.toughnuts" would have fared in that water. they all should have been let to go in the water and died in thier own stupidity. I dont mean that..........Yes I think I do.

Classy family, obviously the kids learn from the fine example set by their parents. I wonder if they have even paid their taxes.

Wow, another rescue call in which a brother risks his life (yeah things could have gone wrong) for a family dog and the lady owner never even says thank you to the guy. Another happy taxpayer / customer that doesn't realize how good they got it. All to typical.

Ditto to that LP! When the lady walks away and is all pissed that it took an hour, (it probably seemed like an hour but it probably wasn't that long, wasn't there so don't know) but she is all ticked off at everybody then she comes back and gives the guys a hug. Hmmm...
