The Bastrop County Sheriff's Department has released hours of footage from dozens of patrol units sent out during the Labor Day wildfires. It shows how far deputies were willing to go do help.

"We did everything that we could physically do to try and protect people, and warn them, and get them out of an area," Sheriff Terry Pickering said.

Deputies risked their lives for days trying to save homes and lives. In all, nearly 1,600 homes were destroyed. Two lives were lost.

There might have been more had deputies not been so persistent with evacuations. Susanne Scoggins of Tahitian Village said it took multiple reminders to convince her to leave.

"We probably had another five deputies and volunteers and we said, 'Okay, this is serious,'" Scoggins said.

Sheriff's deputies will continue to review the audio and video in the coming months. They will look at what worked and what they could have done differently.

"Unfortunately, the fire just moved so fast that we couldn't get everywhere," Sheriff Pickering said.
