Unstable carcinogens and hydrocarbons, Sulfur Dioxide and Hydrogen Cyanide!!! Yep, these guys did right by going on air right away. They certainly get a high five here. Like Corey said, today's homes, cars and even dumpsters have so many new and more deadly fire gasses present than in the days past. I will also commend these guys on appearing calm on this scene. If your running around on scene a couple of things can happen; 1) the public will sense that feeling of panic from you, and possibly making you look lost or unsure of your job, 2) you just might get to meet Mr. Ground, or Mrs. Porch Steps, let's not get ourselves injured. Now yes, there are times when running for a tool or hose line will be warranted, just be cautions.

Being short handed shouldnt have anything to do with the fact these guys were on air. The proper thing to do is protect yourself or you will not be able to perform your duties. My department requires anyone who is working a fire to be 100% PPE. Any time there is smoke something is on fire and most of the time you never know what is actually burning inside the building, there are to many harmful chemicals found in our homes and autos these days.

I understand being short handed. Seemed to be no sense of urgency and why go on air when it appears to be a exterior operation.
