Buffalo Police and Fire responded to a house on Trininty Place this morning for a check the welfare. While the firefighters were trying to gain entry, officers heard what sounded like gunfire inside the house. Officers and firefighters backed away from the structure. While attempting to negotiate with the male inside, detective John Garcia was shot in the face and upper body with buckshot. He was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. After a couple of more hours of standoff, the SWAT team went inside and found the male dead. It is not know if he was killed by police or took his own life.
