October 20, 2009. Peel Regional Police came across an abandoned house with heavy smoke at the intersection of Chinguacousy Rd & Major William Sharpe Dr in Brampton around 4AM Oct 20th 2009. Upon arrival Brampton Fire found the front door breached and heavy fire conditions within the home. After an assessment and two rounds of searches which came up empty it was decided that the home was too far gone for an offensive or defensive attack with the fire entering many inaccessible spaces and cavities. Given that there were no exposures other than some trees it was decided that the fire would be allowed to burn itself out in a controlled state. This allowed many of the responding fire units to be released with the exception of an aerial which was used to control embers and extinguish the remainder of the fire.

I am not sure if the fire was ever deemed arson and there were no press releases to my knowledge by PRPD (Peel Regional Police Department), BFD (Brampton Fire Department) or the OFM (Ontario Fire Marshal). The door may have been breached by officers who were first on scene or by kids long before the fire and was simply left unsecured. I have no idea if propellants were used or what.

If anyone does know what the cause was ultimately determined to be please let me know and I will update the description.
