Bedford Communications alerted Companies 1( Bedford-RIT), and 5 (Forest-2nd due and RIT) to 6220 East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike for a reported house on fire. Engine 1 (with four) arrived eight minutes later at 1914hrs to find fire showing from side Bravo of a two story wood frame private dwelling. Engine 1's crew, along with crews from Pumper 5 and Wagon 1 (with five), worked together on the second floor to access the attic. A cut-up attic made accessing the attic and extinguishing the fire difficult. A Mayday was declared at 1942hrs when a Company 1 firefighter went down on the second floor. Brother firefighters pulled the downed firefighter outside where he was treated and released by Medic 1. The fire was marked under control at 2004hrs. While operating, other companies operated on three other different working fires. After assisting the salvage and restoration company with covering the roof with tarps, Ladder 1returned to service at 0012hrs. Units operating: E-1, L-1, W-1, T-1, P-1, U-1, P-5, T-5, W-5, R-13, RS-2, Medic 1-1, Medic 1-2, Medic 1-4, County 1 and Crash 5. Total Company 1 personnel: 26.
