Personally I didn't see a single thing wrong with this video. Like Perry said, in a department where there are monumental brownouts and severely understaffed companies (we have no heavy rescue any more), sometimes you just don't have anyone to foot the ladder.

Personally I don't like wearing gloves on the roof. Mainly because if I have the saw I have better control over the throttle and killswitch in an emergency, and if I have a tool it's less likely to slide in my hands and it might crash through and bash one of the guys below.

Again if there is no smoke in my face on the roof, I'm not going to be on air. If the wind shifts or smoke finds its way to me then I mask up. If I mask up and breathe air all the damn time then I have less air than when I really need it. Say if I went up on a roof and was breathing air (with no smoke in sight), cut a hole and fell right through it. Well, damn no I"m in a bit of a mess because I don't have that extra 15 min worth air I used up cutting the hole in the roof. Save your air for when you need it, ya yardbreathers.

Only things I would have done different is sound the roof extremely well (just a habit, yes I have watched a brother in front of me fall through a floor even after sounding it, luckily one of the floor joust went between his legs, ouch, but acceptable) and I would have carried a Halligan in case I needed to make a foothold in the roof. Good job Truck 2. I would work with you guys anyday.

For 343 if you have ever been on a fire you would know that it is impossible to always have the ladder being footed.

In this video it is impossible to tell if they sounded on their way to where they vented.
Great job ventilating, not going too large, residential, 4x4. They had all the tools they needed and checked the saw before climbing up. Get the job done and get off.

Very rarely is the venting crew masked up unless there are severe conditions. The fire was already being a put a knock on if you could tell by the white smoke.

Probably just a single room or a room and a hallway.

343 spoke my mind. I was going to rip into them for the exact same things.

Hey Dale, watch your language. This can have the tendency to upset those of us who know better than not breathing air from a SCBA is bad for you.

Hopefully there was at least another ladder for quick egress because the original is occupied by a photographer. It appeared that the f/f on the right almost lost his balance trying to clear the ceiling as well. It's easy to be critical I know but we have to work smart.

Nobody footed the ladder?
Nobody sounded the roof before going cross country?
Nobody was wearing gloves?
They all took the time to donn the B/A's but nobody had the brains to actually mask up and breathe air?
Didn't see a single roll of any rafters?
Get it together guys!
