Rick was involved in an entanglement situation at a structure fire a while back that involved a traditional helmet he was wearing. A large volume of wires dropped and became caught on his helmet front that was bent and distorted from previous jobs he had worked at. The entanglement was so severe he was almost at the point of leaving his helmet behind, but was finally able to free himself. After that incident Rick decided there was a need for a front holder that would stand up to the abuse and demands of today's firefighters and bring the traditional helmet into the 21st century.

Rick set out to design a light weight and strong front holder that addressed the issues and safety concerns found with stock or standard fronts. His desire and motivation was to help his fellow firefighters avoid a similar close call, while still allowing them to enjoy the pride of wearing a traditional lid.
