Folks

You don't need to email the department to express your concern. Read the link on the first page of comments. The story is over :) The officer was fined. The fine is recent, the incident is several years old.

I happen to know the police officer involved and this is not very shocking to me.He is a complete #@*hole to the letter!! I agree with Lutan1 stepping out of a moving apparatus isn't very smart.

Am I the only one who has an issue with an officer stepping out a moving vehicle????

There's other issues that need to be addressed along with the obvious one....

anytime south bend fire or st. joseph county fire rolls to a mva they close the roads in fact the county fire even has a special traffic control team called vest to handle it here the city has the police call the street dept. to get road closers imo the cop in the video should be fired not just fined

yeah glenn same thing happen last april where i'm from we were working a fatal MVA on a two lane highway in white out and icey conditions and our pumper was parked across both lanes providing protection to the scene while county sheriffs did the investigation and while we were on scene a vehicle driving well over the speed limit for the conditions (also later found out the driver was driving on a suspended license) was unable to stop or slow down for the fire police controlling traffic almost hitting one and slamming into our pumper causing major damage to both the vehicle and the pumper putting it out of service for 6 months. Our pumper saved the lives of several county investigators and firefighters on scene.

in december of 2001 we were working a 1 car mva on Interstate 10 just east of houston. that winter was verry cold and we actually had alot of ice on the roadway which caused the mva we were working. we always shut down an additional lane to protect ems. while extracating the driver anothe vehicle lost control on the ice and hit our 6 month old pumper pushing it 10 inches foward ( with breakes on and pumper wheels were chaulked) if the pumper hadent been their 6 firefighters, 2 medics and 3 DPS officers would have been injured. After we took care of the 2nd vehicle one DPS officer came to me and said he always wondered why fire trucks always took up an additional lane of traffic while working highway emergencies and now he knows why.

$18,000 will make you think twice about next time. Cop should feel lucky he still has a job
