SAN ANTONIO FIREFIGHTERS were called around 7:45 pm for a trash fire under a wooden railroad trestle that runs beneath I-35 in town.
When on the scene they found an old mattress and some trash around it on fire and were beginning to bring in a hose line to put it out.
Just then, a fast-moving freight train came roaring past and fanned the flames where they caught the creosote coating on the timbers on fire. “It just took off like a book of matches on us,” were the words of one firefighter.
