25 companies responded to a 3-alarm blaze at the Friends School just outside of Wilmington, DE. The original dispatch was for an alarm sounding with Talleyville Quint 257 responding. New Castle County Fireboard upgraded the alarm to a full box when an EMS unit arrived to report heavy smoke showing. The fire originated in the school's 4 story auditorium -- a windowless, all brick building with slate and copper roof. A partial collapse resulted in the evacuation of the structure by Command, which then ordered 6 aerial master streams in service. The blaze took 3 hours to control. Mutual Aid companies from Delaware County, PA responded on the second alarm, with Salem County NJ companies covering empty Delaware stations.
