05.06.09 - Basement Fire - 425 Walnut St. Catasauqua, PA

From You Tube, At 11:02 Lehigh County Radio signaled Companies 2, 18 and Truck 6 (Whitehall), to 425 Walnut St. for a basement fire. Police first on scene reported smoke and flames showing. Chief 1801 arrived and took command. He struck a second alarm immediately and special-called Whitehall's Engine 1.

Whitehall's Truck 6 arrived first and a crew of two firefighters grabbed water-cans and headed for the basement. They kept the fire in check until the first-in engine arrived, engine 211. The engine crew stretched a handline in and darkened down the small fire in the basement.

The second alarm consisted of Whitehall's Engine 2 (R.I.T.) and Coplay's Air Unit.

The use of the "can" in this fire was a perfect scenerio. Truck crew arrives first and finds the seat of the fire, keeps it in check with the "can" while the engine crew now can focus on stretching the line to the seat of the fire. Quick arrival, quick aggression in finding the seat of the fire and containing the fire with the "can" before the flashpoint and minimizing damage is firefighting at its best. Newsworking gives two thumbs up for a job well done!
