About Me:
Started in the fire service 1995 against much adversity. I was the first female breaking ground in a very macho environment department and managed to complete over 1,000 hours of training, I was "allowed" to complete up to the rank of Captain before leaving the department and moving on to another department in the same town. I am a paid fire service instructor, and I am past president to our municipal firemen's association. Overall, I found that the majority of firefighters in my county and state were accepting and supportive. I did not allow the few "narrow-minded" individuals to discourage me. No regrets.
Mostly because I was a victim of a terrible fire as a young girl and I wanted to be part of the solution...educating safety.........and partly because someone said not to!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
serving the community
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Recruitment
Increasing training requirements v. time available
organization on the fire ground
