Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I joined the fire department as a cadet/junior to make a difference in my community. I love my town, and I love to help. The adrenaline is something that can't be found anywhere else. I wanted to be a firefighter since I was 2 years old. The firemen here in Castleton were my hero's, and so was my parents and grandpa. I wanted to be just like them, I wanted to be someone's hero.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
There are too many things to list off. The big thing I love now is encouraging other youth to join, and educate and train them to be the best they can be.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Funding, training hours, and volunteering. It cost to volunteer, there is no way around it. With the tightening economy there is more selfishness happening with out question. It is becoming more aware that everyone ask the same question Adam asked God when he was dropped into the garden with Eve, "What's in it for me?" Training hours are gaining more and more each year. It is hard for a person to have a family, work full time, and then commit to something like our organizations.
