About Me:

I joined SIFD in 2005. Swan's Island is an unbridged island 6 miles offshore with a population of 330. Became the 1st (1 of 2) firefighters to attend Hancock County FF Academy in 2008. I am a part time member of Southwest Harbor FD while I am taking EMT class on the mainland two nights a week.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS

In a community as small as mine and also as isolated as we are, I feel every able bodied person should be a part of community safety in some form.

Why I Love Fire/EMS

The fire dept. has taken the place of playing sports for me, the rush of a call and being a member of a team.

Top Issues Facing Responders:

Lack of committed volunteers. Shrinking budgets. Hybrid cars.
