It gives me a sense of community involvement. A chance to give back to a community that has been very welcoming to me.

I knew I wanted to be a firefighter from the time I was 5 years old. Even told my mom, while riding my little pedal firetruck with working bell, that I was going to. She always told me I was crazy and I'd change my mind. 22 years later, here I am with 8 years in and still going strong. As for the why, because I always enjoyed helping people, whether it was homework, or pushing a stalled vehicle to safety, or taking panhandlers lunch. Seemed only natural that I'd get into a job where I got to help people. I do it because I love it. I love it all. The rush, the heat, the smoke, the fact that every day and every fire is different. Most of all, I love helping the people in my community in all aspects, and I thank God every day that I even get to be a firefighter.
