My opinion!!!!! Who desides what is life threatening? I have heard depts comment that they only go to EMS calls that are life threatening. Calls come in and status changes with in minutes. Broken legs are really amputated, Difficutlty breathing, is not breathing. (I do know that it can go the other way as well)Some citizens dont have any medical knowledge at all. When they call and somone says they are dying, how do we know with out going there that they are not? I just dont feel that a Dept has the right to deny its tax payers/community the right to medical care. If one firefighter shows up and applies a pressure to an arterial bleed and they live, if he/she shows up to and keeps the frantic new mom calm while we care for her new baby that has a simple cold, you have just been a hero, a real firefighter. You have given that person a sense of hope. There does not need to be 10, 15 people at an EMS call. One or two guys is all it takes most of the time. We are saviors to some in our community. If your dept has not advanced to EMS that is one thing. Why would you not want to be there if you dept is fully capable? If you feel that it is a waste for your time, dont go. I cant do that I have a heart for my communityand what I love!

I feel the same way. I dont feel that I dept should be aloud to say " dont tone us out unless it is life threatening! A call is a call get up and go.

Hey Ryann know one knows if its life threatening until trained ems personell arrive on scean. Rather it be the ambulance or people from your dept. Dispatch cannot tell from information received from 911 callers. When ever an ems call comes in it has to be treated as life threatening untill proven other wise.
