This is a poem I wrote a couple years ago. Thought everyone might like it.

"The Life Of A Firefighter"

Some people don’t understand why we do the things we do.
How we are willing to lay down our lives just to try and rescue you.

Its not for the money or the awards that they give.
Its just a part of our lives we have chosen to live.

No matter what time it is, during the night or during the day
When the fire alarm goes off, we are up and on our way.

Some of us get paid and others nothing at all.
But no matter which one we are, we still answer the call.

We never know when it will happen, or if it will be our last.
But we will still come running with our hearts beating fast.

God says there’s no greater gift than to give your life for another.
And it does not matter to us if you’re a stranger or a brother.

We race into the Fires of Hell, fighting flames all about.
Some of us return joyfully, and some never come out.

But our families have it harder than us, just listen and you will see.
Because they never know when their family of four has now dropped to three.

And now you understand why we do the things we do.
Because God has chosen us, to lay down our lives for you.

So now I close my eyes, and bow my head to pray.
“Thank you Lord for taking me, so they could live another day!”
