Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...January 28, 2010
My days have been spent lately packing up my home, taking care of my kids' needs, and looking for a job. I wish I had more time to look for a job. I went to a seminar at the Career Center Tuesday at NJ Employment and the instructor told us a whopping fact - actually two facts:
1-Most employers look through thousands of resumes; and
2-Many more employers are submitting positions to NJ Employment to save on a recruiting fee.
I am hoping beyond hope that I get a Pell grant to go to the Paralegal Studies program at Fairleigh Dickinson in Madison. While I was wondering around the buildings the other day, I thought how cool at 48 I am finally going to school for something I was meant to be. Or at least a stepping stone to something I want to be - a lawyer.
I am moving in two weeks and was feeling very overwhelmed about it. Living on alimony, child support, and unemployment is pretty tough these days. The guys at the firehouse have said they will help me move my furniture. Gosh I hope that really happens. I hate to ask for help.
Wish some of you guys lived in Morristown. Everyone I've spoken to via firefighternation.com has been awesome.
Have a great weekend everyone! I will be packing, praying, and cooking to deal with my stress!
