Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...March 4, 2010
I have sold many homes in my life but none have made me feel like the one I am selling now. This house was our biggest, had the best property, alot of good karma, and yet provided the most stress because we simply couldn't keep up with the mortgage after awhile (let's not even go into the situations with my daughter in the house that almost made jump from the roof).
Seriously, I read all the time, and hear all the time since I am a licensed broker, that the President is trying to keep people in their homes and avoid foreclosure. This may sound crazy to some, but maybe there are people out there like myself who should sell their home because the stress is simply not worth it. Yes I am now crammed into a five room apartment with two boys and their handful of friends, but I wake up in the morning and can feel the financial bricks coming off my back one by one.
Next week is our closing. Today is my CO inspection, Monday I have to oversee a new oil tank installation, and Wednesday our underground oil tank comes out of the ground. We've had to pay $5,000 to get the oil tank done, even cashing in our IRA, but still I can feel those bricks getting pushed off as the days go by.
Hopefully closing on March 12th will give us some of the luck of St. Patrick to get this over and done with so I can go on with finding a job and hankering down these two little juvie boys I have.
At least it's better than the alternative.
PS If you are thinking of selling a house and you're upside down in your mortgage like I am, get a good lawyer experienced in short sales and a good realtor to handle the transaction for you. Also, get a rental and move out if you can beforehand. It's easier on the kids. Lastly, negotiate with the lessor - many nowadays are offering moving incentives like the first month rent free. That's what I got.
Have a great day everyone!!!
