Over the past few years, I have been doing those independent study courses with FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute. As you can see on my training page, I have been working my butt off trying to accomplish as much as I can to make myself as marketable and as adaptable as I possibly can. Apparently, the Frederick Community College in Frederick, MD, has quite a comprehensive program that allows FEMA ISP students to apply their courseware for college credits!
For example, a good deal of the courses I’ve taken and completed through FEMA can earn one college credit per ISP course at F.C.C. There are some of the courses require two or three courses to earn one college credit. I downloaded their college credit application and found that it costs $76.00 per credit requested. As it stands right now, I’m eligible for 29 college credits at Frederick Community College. The credits can either be transferred to another institution or applied towards a Frederick Community College Associate’s Degree, certificate or letter of recognition.
I’m giving serious thought to using some of my G.I. Bill benefits to send in my FEMA ISP transcripts to the college and have college credits conferred for transfer. It’ll cost about $2,000.00, but isn’t that what the money is there for? After all, having a transcript from a college like Frederick Community College can do well for me if I choose to achieve a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Emergency Management. Heck, there’s a very reputable program at St. Joseph’s University for that field. I just may use the last bit of my benefits for just that.
