Our Department is looking to replace a number of our member's turnout gear, some of which was manufactured as early as 1979 and 1982. We have been replacing gear with Quaker gear in the past few year due to the price and local distributer primarily. I myself have not been issued any of the Quaker stuff yet, and going by the feel of trying them on the look of them on others and comments by some of the guys, I dont want any! Very bulky and not very egronomic. I have had prior expeirience with Secruitex and Janesville. Personally, I am not too impressed with the Janesville Gear which we have at my full time job (Janesville, Commando). I absolutly loved my old securitx gear I had in the past, super lightweight, ergonmics were unbelievable too. The only downside I found with the Securtex was the reflective trim would pull and seperate, but it was 15 years old or so.

What are some of the opinions on turnout gear? Looking for something that is egronomic, lightweight and dependable.
Thanks for the feedback

In my 5 years of experince, I haved used numerous brands like Globe, Lion Apparel, FireDex, and Morning Pride. My favorite would have to be Globe, It has always been the best fitting, and I feel more protected in it. But since my voly fd, just got a grant for new gear and numerous other things, we decided to switch from globe to INNO-TEX. From what I have seen I will like it better than globe, and the fact that your not paying also for the "GLOBE" name its cheaper. Its just my opinion about which gear is better.

I have tried FireDex, Lions Apparel, and Morning Pride....And to be honest I felt very comfortable in the Mornin Pride. The only bad thing is if you get into some hot fires the reflective tape shrinks. It's a weird feeling, but that's at about 700'F. When it's that hot on the floor...it's time to get out anyways. As for my gear I trust my life to Morning Pride...and my reed hood. Check out Dooley Tackaberry at safetyfire.com

We use FireDex fairly light weight very good gear. Some dept's i know use Morning Pride that also seems to be a good set of gear although i have never used it.

We use Body Guard
its light weight, dependible, easy to add and take off pockets,
pants have the double knee pads and the reflective trim last for ever, there is a guy at out station using gear from the 70's and his relective trim is still in great shape and has never been replaced

We have Morning Pride gear and have bought probably about 40 sets and everybody really like them. They are fairly light with a double knee and good construction all the way around.

We got some of the Quaker last year the guys seam to realy like it. Things you need to watch is what the fabric is made of. If you can take the time to learn what type of fabric is being used it will go a long way. Dont be fooled by Dif makes cause they all by their stuf from Sourthen Mills. You can get really good gear at a very good price.
