Hello everyone, New to Firefighter Nation.
Hello everyone,
My name is Daniel J Rocha, I guess you could call me a rookie to firefighter nation. =)
I am glad to have found this site, and will now do what I can to engage myself with this site. Even though I am currently not part of the Fire Department/EMS, it is my aspiration to join and be part of a team of heroes. It's been a dream of mine, as I'm sure with all of you, to pursue a career in this field.
I am currently a student at Seneca College (Toronto, Canada) taking the Fire Protection Technology course, and will go into the Pre-Service Firefighter Education Program which will grant me a NFPA1001 equivalent. I will then proceed to apply Canada-wide to Fire Departments. Although Fire Suppression is definitely a goal, I am also aiming to become a Fire Prevention Officer.
This leads me to my blog.
It is a blog created with a vision of abolishing public apathy by making family, friends and communities aware and knowledgeable in fire safety and prevention. By managing this blog, I also hope to further immerse myself in the Fire Protection Industry by becoming more aware of events in the world, new technological progress in the Fire Protection Industry, and to network with many sites and companies related to the industry. I will post anything from now on to Firefighter Nation as well, in the meantime, if there are any recommendations, constructive criticism, or any advice to what you think could improve the blog or what you would like to see posted on the blog, then I welcome it all with open arms.
So here I am. I am fresh prospect and hopefully a future firefighter. If anyone has any advice for a student getting into firefighting it would be most appreciated.

Thank you for the words of wisdom Ralph, I will bring them to heart.
I have been hearing a lot since I joined FFN to lose the hero thoughts, and it makes sense. But when I say team of heroes, I guess what I mean to say is a team of men and women who look out for one another, for their families and their communities. A brotherhood of professionals who seek to better society. But I know exactly what you mean. Perhaps the whole hero mentality is the wrong way to be looking at it.
I will be the best I can be, and will never stop learning or training. Thanks!
