Although the media hype has died down, “swine flu” remains a reality that all first responders must be ready to confront. The World Health Organization just raised H1N1 to a Stage-6 pandemic, reflecting the spread of the disease if not the intensity; many experts predict a second wave that could be significantly more intense than the first. Europe has confirmed its first death, and closer to home, 36 students and their seven chaperones from a San Diego-area high school remain quarantined in China after some tested positive for the virus.

How this affects first responders is a complex question, especially as the story develops and the question evolves. In conjunction with our sister sites JEMS.com and LawOfficer.com, FirefigherNation.com is proud to present a Webcast entitled "Influenza: Is This an Emergency?" by Mike McEvoy on June 25 at 2 p.m. EDT to help you formulate your response.

It's the flu for wholly crap people... The normal flu has killed people every year.. It is sad but it hit 's the sick already ,the elderly, small ones who's immune system in not up to par...
We can't control it because people are still going to work because of fear of losing their jobs, We still send the kids to school because we as their parents can't stay home because of ear of lossing our jobs.... It's sad, but it's the flu........ The Er's up here are packed with people who think they have it..So they get in their cars head for the ED wait first have to stop and get a drink, don't forget a pack of gum or what ever so they tramp thru the store to get it.... Just like when they had the normal flu bug...... Wash your hands,Cover your face, try not touching people..Wash dishes extra good at home..... Like Paul said stay home... But sad to say got to get the employers not to give a hard time to these people ,yes you will get your fakes, but the price in the long run will benifit....

It really is NOT rocket science....you simply treat it the same way you treat any influenza virus....we go through this every year...You wash your hands, and most importantly if you are sick you stay home until you are symptom free for 24 hours......Paul
