I had my first, first-on-scene VSA the other day. The first page was sent out for a medical assist. I opted to go directly to the house since it was close by. I was caught a little off guard when I entered the home as the VSA info wasn't given till the second page, which I recieved after my patient contact had been made. I have recently been certified as a first reponder, so this was a good test to see how I managed the situation. After a couple of minutes of one rescuer CPR, a couple more ff's arrived (which seemed like forever to me, being my first time) and helped until the truck arrived a few minutes later...We were able to admin 3 shocks during CPR. Unfortunately, we were unable to save them due to an aneurysm which the fam had a history of...A few days later, our hall recieved a call from the family giving thanks to us for all we did, and a special thanks to the first responder on scene(me) for the professionalism and immediate care given. I am very glad to hear that I performed well in a real life situation!!
