Maplewood LODD
IAFF Local 2665 is deeply saddened to announce the Line of Duty Death of Brother Ryan Hummert. Ryan was 22 years old and was weeks away from completing his first year as a full time Fire Fighter Paramedic with the Maplewood Fire Department. Ryan was a tremendous person who was extremely well-liked by everyone who knew him. His life’s ambition was to become a Fire Fighter and to serve the community in which he had been raised. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hummert family and the members of the Maplewood Fire Department during these horrible times.
At approximately 0545 on Monday, July 21, 2008 Brother Ryan Hummert was fatally shot while exiting the fire truck to extinguish a car fire that had apparently been intentionally set to draw first responders to the scene. The gunman barricaded himself in an adjacent residence where he waited to ambush Fire Fighters and Police Officers as they arrived. Two Maplewood Police Officers were also shot, but expected to recover from their injuries.
Full details regarding the visitation and funeral will be release as soon as they become available.
Please check the Local 2665 website www. iaff2665. org for the latest information on services for Brother Hummert, as well as for information on donations and for opportunities to assist the Maplewood Fire Department and Local 2665 through this terrible situation.
