Well a sad day has come... My volunteer rescue squad has been shut down by the County I live in becasue of political greedy people that care nothiing about the community but only about themselves. They actually pushed out all the volunteers in our county. It breaks my heart because when I moved to NC 5 years ago it was the first thing that I joined. It was the first fellowship I have ever belonged to. I recieved my EMT certificate and went out and saved some lives, helped those that were sick or injured. I was a volunteer and did everything for free! I didnt ask to be paid. I got up in the middle of the night and went to little old granny's house because she felt out of bed and just needed a hand up.

After 5 years things had been slipping out from below us at my rescue squad. The members became fewer and fewer, the President just didnt care and it brough us all down. The county was busting out chops for something or another. And then all there was left was 2 active members, 1 member who lost his cert, and old lifetime members with a rescue building 2 ambulances and no calls to be answer because it would unlawful for us to do so now.

I thought I had done everything that i could think of to try to save my squad, but I failed. Maybe one day I will try once again to rebuild my squad and it will be a sucess.

You didn't fail Kimberlee! Your heart was in the right place and your dedication to your department shows. It's ashame that there are not more of you to go around. Don't give up - keep up the fight. In the meantime, keep up your certs and join a department within driving distance to keep your passion alive.

The thing is, most of the politicians see firefighters as an extra hassel. Our newly elected first selectman was very close to closing us down. But then, thats when the town came to our aid. they should him what their life would be like if the Bozrah Vol. Fire Dept. wasn't there. so he turned around and changed his mind.

Our Garfield Vol Fire Dept has been hearing that the state of New Jersey wants to set an age limit, then out you go. They dont care if your a veteran fire fighter or not. They seem to think once a person gets a certain age even though you a active, well you got to go. All politics
