Some people wonder why I run half marathons and fundraise for Leukemia, and I’ve posted some comments on here before in my TNT: The Accidental Runner blogs to explain, but I don’t think anything can say it better as to why I do what I do than the note posted below.

One of the kids that the Upstate NY/VT Chapter is running for is Dylan Mayo, 8 years old, from Clifton Park, NY.
He was diagnosed with AML M4 Leukemia on 1/9/07. He and his family have never given up hope. Their motto is FROG – Fully Relying On God. Dylan has gone through countless rounds of chemo, a couple of clinic trials and even received a bone marrow transplant from his younger brother Devin. Dylan lost his fight with leukemia on July 5th, 2008 at 2:15 p.m., after a short 18 month battle with the disease.

His mother left the following note the day after Dylan’s passing:
4 days short of 18 months of fighting AML leukemia without any remission, our son Dylan passed away yesterday July 5th at 2:15 PM. His body could not keep up with his will to live and gave in. We are having faith in God that he is with his Mimi (Scott's Mom) eating meatballs and watching game shows and fooling around with my Grandpa. I pray that these very important people in our lives care for our FOREVER 8 yr old until Scott and I are given the chance to be reunited with him. The important things we are focusing on are that Dylan is now healthy in heaven, he passed quickly, out of pain, and that while he was on earth we did everything to heal him that we could, but more importantly we did everything we could to make him happy!

As expected, we are not ok. Our three little boys (6 yrs old and 4 1/2yrs old) are not ok. We knew it would be hard but we were not expecting how hard. There are periods of crying in our house. I won't lie about it- this is painful but as always...we will PUSH the FROG and take all the memories, love and lessons that Dylan has taught us and move forward. He was such an amazing boy!

I will update once we have our arrangements made.

Dyl...Mommy misses you so very much. Never forget how much I love you..Sorry for letting go.

Thought of the Day:

We understand death for the first time when he puts his hand upon one whom we love. ~Madame de Stael

And that’s why I do what I do, and I won’t stop until someone finds a cure for this damned disease. October 2009, Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco, CA.

Dylan's family adopted a motto to help keep them strong during the difficult times....F.R.O.G. (Fully Relying on God)
Please keep the family in your prayers.

You're awesome -- and it's people like you that make this world better... especially for families like Dylan's. Keep doing what you're doing... and hell, if your knees give out... I'll be there for ya ~ pushing ya in your wheelchair!

I'm running until my knees give out and I can't do it anymore. Then I'll figure something else out to raise funds....like a barbecue eating championship or something...
