The call came on a Sunday night.........

Got a call from the chief on Sunday the 15th,wanting to know if I wanted to go to the widfire in the northern part of the state.I said yes,and we would be on our way in the morning. The rest of the night was spent trying to get stuff ready to go.Left the station in the new brush truck......after a wrong turn(chief was driving.......laffin) we got Matamaskeet base camp and check in.....and spent the rest of the day settling and waiting. They had a group there that provided us with everything we needed, laundry, good food, showers, phone, etc.Cot in the gym wasnt the greatest but you get tired enough, and youll sleep.Tuesday we got assigned to a county substation to do structure protection and farm field protection.Alot of the farmers are in the process of picking wheat and spuds now....Burn Ban was in effect, but the farmer where we were at told the local ranger to write the ticket--he needed to burn his fields to plant beans....$250 fine.....$1000+ to plow it all under...he did the lighting we did the watching...very close I might add...its pretty cool the way they burn them out....needless to say...there were other "controlled burns"and had really didnt have anything bad happen......just that they needed to save the money.....and I see why....when I go to the store. Will post more here later.......
