To all of "My Firefighters" and their families:
Although each of you is in my thoughts and prayers every single day of the year, September 11th is especially difficult for us all, I think. So many lost in the blink of an eye... in front of the world.
Tomorrow morning, I will be at work at the bookstore and I know that the same thing will happen at the same time as it did six years ago. It will hit me that there was a tragedy of unfathomable proportions on American soil. I will not only remember the 343, but the 33 police officers and the thousands of civilians who were lost to the horrors of extremeist fanatics.
Such a horrible thing... but never, EVER will they be forgotten.
I want to share something with you all that I carry with me every single day. It is a prayer written by FDNY Chaplain Fr. Mychal Judge.
Mychal's Prayer
Lord, take me where you want me to go.
Let me meet who you wnt me to meet.
Tell me what you want me to say and
Keep me out of your way.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, Fr. Mychal was in the lobby of one of the North Tower. He was administering last rites to a firefighter when the tower collapsed on top of him. His was the first body recovered after the collapses. The famous photograph of six firefighters carrying a body from the rubble - that was Fr. Mychal. He died doing what he loved to do and dedicated his life to - serving the members of the FDNY as their Chaplain and caring for a fallen Brother. He ignored the orders to abort - he had a job to do and did it until his death.
His Brothers laid his body on the altar of St. Paul's Church across the street from the horrible scene, said a prayer, then went to retrieve others from the mess.
Blessed be each and every single soul.
Be well & stay safe, My Heroes.
Love,
Erin Blackman
