Boston firefighters Paul Cahill, 55 of Engine Co. 30 and Warren J. Payne, 53 of Ladder Co. 25 were killed in the line of duty last night while operating at the scene of a 4 alarm fire in the West Roxbury section of the city. 13 other firefighters were injured, 2 were initially listed in critical condition however they have been upgraded to serious condition. Both men were 25 year veterans of the Boston Fire Department.
The fire occurred in a Thai restaurant located in a block of stores on Centre St.
Payne and Cahill were on the first due companies and initial reports are they were advancing a hoseline and became disoriented and/or trapped within a few minutes.
