This is a DISGRACE! A COMPLETE & UTTER DISGRACE! Three officers from the FDNY are being disciplined for the Line of Duty Deaths of two Firemen at the Deutche Bank Building Fire. While the layman may think this is a natural outcome of an event like this I can assure you it is not. In my opinion, reading the charges, these men, at least two of them are being SCAPEGOATED for failures way above their pay grade!

Responsibility without authority does not equal culpability.

You obviously don't understand my point. My point is that there is a huge bureaucracy that these guys have to work in. I would venture to say that if you look further into the bureaucratic and political issues below the surface you will find details about this incident that point to culpability way HIGHER than these members who are being SCAPEGOATED.
Ask yourself some simple yet pointed questions:
WHAT could the Company Captain have done about the FBI removing the standpipe section? Refuse to fight the fire?
Why didn't the City shut this site down? I'm sure that the company Captain would have had a lot of success doing that.
How can any line company reasonably be expected to accomplish ANY realistic inspection program given their normal workload?
The building was a environmental and health risk PRIOR to the fire. Ya think there was something behind the non-inspection or was it just neglect of the Line Company Officer? My money is that there are mega issues behind this job that will come out. Wait and see where the chips fall on this one.

Let me see if I understand your point.....the first due Capt, Battalion, and Division Chief did not fulfill their responsibilty in making sure something was done. This does not make them scapegoats....This makes them accountable...just as the others in their position who worked the days before when the conditions were the same...for the same reason. Someone didn't do their job.....and thier supervisor did not do theirs.......and so on. This is not a criticism, its just my opinion....and I respect your opinion....stay safe brother.
