Why do we?
Its a job that we do, to some its not clear, why do we do it, 24/7 365 days a year? We do it for people that we just don't know, In rain, hail, sleet or snow. Its a job that requires the best of the best, Not something that you can expect from the rest. We do it in the darkness of night, The persons life lies in the fate of our fight. We do it for free, and expect no reward, We never step back, only we push forward. We are called heroes, some may tell, Of our adventures threw the thickest of hell. We are brothers and sisters, You can see it in our battle scars and blisters. We never complain about our dangerous job, Instead we still do it, humping the line, or manning the "knob." When one of our brothers and sisters pays the ultimate Price, We remember the 'family' before him who too payed the sacrifice, Though it may not make it to the press, They are still heroes nonetheless. With rough character, honor and great dedication, Its possibly one of our greatest sensations, For a job well done gets us through the day, Its something we do without anything bad to say. So when you ask us why we do it without any fear, Why do we do it 24/7 365 days a year? To you it may not be clear, But for us, the answer lies here...
I found this poem, by a great lady I know in the field and had to share it with everyone!
