I will be moving to Amarillo in a few months. I am interested in joining a VFD. I am finishing up my last few months of nursing school and know my calling is in critical care, emergency and trauma. I have worked in a stepdown critical care unit for over a year as a nurse tech and i really like it. I am kind of a adrenaline junkie(runs in the family) and know i want to someday get my EMT-P. I could one day see myself as a Flight Nurse/Paramedic. My plan is right now to move to amarillo, work in an ICU, maybe part time in a ED, Get EMS certification and do some Work in firefighting/EMS.

Randall County Fire Dept, which I am a member, is accepting members. Did you move up here yet? The training we recieve is good and keeps us up to date on current procedures. Any questions, contact me through this site.

Both NWTHS and BSA offer EMS Service. AMS runs exclusively in Amarillo , while BSA responds in Canyon and north Randall County. With AMS's call Volume you will gain a lot of experience in a short time, and Both services are going through some growth at this time and the pay is fairly decent compared to the rest of the country. Amarillo College does all of the EMS training, however RCFD does CE classes every month to keep our personnel abreast of all new changes and training requirements as per national standard.
