Yep. Been 2 months since my last blog. I've been spending a lot of my time at the firehouse, just learning and acclimating. I'm officially on the schedule now. I've worked 2 paid shifts this month, and I have my first 36 hour shift this weekend, between our 2 stations. Hopefully, nobody will want to kill me by the end, and vice versa.
So far, our little fire department is a rather quiet one. I've not had a fire yet, and only one ladder run for "smell coming from the basement" which turned out to be an old, musty furnace filter. But I did get to wander around the house with my CO monitor and when I spoke to the elderly couple, the man exclaimed, "Hey! That one's a GIRL!" I smiled and said,"Surprise!" I do get some rather dreamy stares from the older gentlemen in the back of the medic, too, which I eat up and then make cracks about how much better looking I am than my counterparts. Slow going as it is, I love my job and sometimes have a hard time believing I get paid for this.
That's all for now....I'm sure I'll have more to say after my marathon shift this weekend.
