Please keep 8 yr old Alyvia in your thoughts and prayers and her mother also. They were involved in an 2 vehicle accident on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 in Ellerslie, Maryland. She was medivaced to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She's currently in the PICU. She had to be extricated from the vehicle. In the Ed, she crashed. After two chest tubes and over 15 minutes of resuscitative measures, she was revived, this was the first time, She ran out of blood (fluid depleted)and crashed again. They opened her chest in the Ed and after another 15 - 20 minutes she was revived again.
Bothe lungs collasped, her diaphragm was torn fm the sternum to her right side, her liver is actually ruptured and not fixable. They have it wrapped in packing to try and stop the bleeding.
She has a concussion, her jaw is broken in 3 places. Her sternum is broken in two. Her kidney is bruiese and has a large hematoma on the adrenal gland. Her colon is bruised. her ribs are broken, both bones in her right arm are broken, bothe bones in her left arm are broken at the wrist and forearm. Bothe femurs are broken, bothe lower legs are broken in two. Her pelvis is broken and has a 1 1/2 gap in it. It is broken up into her lower spine.
Her pubis bone is fraxtured. Her progronis is grim. They have her chest and abdomen open for drainage and in case they need access. They have external fixtures on her extremities, they are auto-fusing some of what they are collecting from her lungs, liver and her heart. Her heart is fine. The have found NO BRAIN INJURY so far. After the first 10 hours, she has had 16 units of blood.

As of 2/19/08:
Her left foot has slowly lost circulation, it is purple and cold.
A nephrologist came in to see her last night, due to renal failure, she was placed on aminophyllin drip,. this may promote kidney function, if not they are looking at possibledialysis. They do seem shocked over the kidney, with the 2 rounds of cardiac arrest, the massive amt. of trauma and the drugs that were necessary, they sor of saw this coming. The will unpack the abdomen and chest on Wed. 20th, to reassess the liver injury, the kidney and colon, and to check for further injuries that were not part of the life threatening beginning of all of this. She still has some bleeding fm her lungs. Her heart is NOT damaged at all. Brain function is nor being looked at, at all. The did tell thesm that her brain CT showed no injury, but that when she arrested, due to losing her blood volumn, that she would have been Oxygen depleted for a short time. Her pupils react well. She has maintained well throughout the
night.

This morning, Alyvia was headed back into surgery to check her internal.
Her left foot was amputated since it has lost circulation.


As I hear more update on Alyvia, I will keep everyone posted.
