Whenever I see a firefighter walking down the street, it seems to me that he or she is at least three feet taller than the rest of us. Maybe that's because as we're running away from danger and tragedy, they run right into the face of it. As we cower away to save our own skin, they risk their own lives to run in and preserve whatever life they can. You can ask any firefighter and they will tell you, "I'm not brave, not a hero... just doing my job." How is it that these men and women can be so humble, so selfless and kind? I think that when you stare death in the face day in and day out, it brings you closer to God. When you see tragedy and loss of life, you see the world through a different set of eyes. It gives you a mindset that appreciates life in ways that regular people can't and don't. Firefighters are a different breed. And if you know any firefighters personally, you will understand the truth to these words. They are the best friend you could ever hope to have, because they will do anything for you. And boy do they know how to have FUN!!!!!! They live each minute like it is their last, because it could be. When they are not out there doing their job, they are out enjoying life with friends and family. The first to help anyone in need... and always there to make you laugh and smile. The courage and stamina these men and women exhibit during their careers is astounding. What goes through their mind as they are running into that burning building... or as they are excavating that mother and child from their smashed car? They seem superhuman... and perhaps that is the truest statement of all. God Bless the Firefighters.. the real life Angels of our world!!!!!!! Truly!!!!!
