Afternoon all,

Yesterday was eye opening class., it was discussion and training on vehicle operations aka driving and how to handle your vehicle during a call. Most of the class seemed to be common sense but I did learn a lot from it. See the act here (click here) It was very informative to say the least.

But we also have had a discussion going on locally about a conversion from 400 MHZ to 800 MHZ. As a licensed ham radio operator I am familiar with the ends and outs of how RF works... aka “Black Magic and Voodoo”. My first impression is say “No”... but I am not sure I can make valid decision on the subject. I guess I need to do some research on the subject and pass it up the chain to the top so they can understand why I am opposed to it. The biggest think is the money it would cost us... I am thinking the radios are $4k or a mobile and $3k for a portable radio... your talking 5 trucks and 32 portables... your talking somewhere near $100K in radios alone... That's going to kill our fire department... we do good to be able to make truck payments as it is... oh well thats a rant for another time... LOL.

Thats it for me now... be safe and keep your boots dry.
