Yesterday was such an exhausting day I couldn't even type this post!

We had an SCBA drill yesterday. I was so glad the Academy got us ready by doing the search and rescue with the packs on. I didn't get to go through the maze but was able to do the rescue. All the practice makes you feel more comfortable with the equipment.

Last night we climbed the 24 foot ladder into the window then advancing dry hose lines. What I didn't know and to those of you veteran firefighters this may seem stupid (although our cool instructor said no questions from probies are stupid) that you don't turn your air on until you're at the door and you need it. I was trying to calculate the 1/3rd rule.

A student in my class was really scared about climbing the ladder...seems like a long time ago it was me. All I could do was help with encouraging her. That's what we all need to do.

Sometimes when you're around 20 year olds, you feel 20 years old, but when you get home and you look at your bruises you realize you're not so young.

That is soooo cool that you wrote a book!!!! I love writing Notes from a Rookie Firefighter. People don't realize how hard it's been and I don't usually complain. But I am one big black and blue. Good luck with your book!!! PS If I get through, no I should say when I get through, my next column will be "Off to the Drill".
