On Friday August 10, 2007 at 1950 the radio silences broke with Battalion 1 reporting a working fire at 436 Hospital Drive. Engine 1 quickly hit the street with 3. With the short response time arrived to find a single story end unit office of a row of five with heavy fire though the roof. The Engine chauffeur nosed into a plug on side Adam. The crew forced entry for a quick search. With the search negative they quickly made access into the attic space to attack the fire.
Tower 1 with 3 (I was the chauffeur) was a few minutes behind the engine. I positioned the Tower on Side Adam and quickly went to work setting up the stick. See that the interior crew were making little head way a 2nd alarm was struck. Crew backed out while the ladder pipe was put into service. After 10 minutes of flow, a bulk of the fire was knocked down.
Rescue and Wagon 1 on scene a few minutes following the Tower started forcing entry and check for extension in exposure David one though five, finding minor smoke conditions in the attic, but no extension. The crew quickly switched roles to savage.
Due to the hot and humid the first and second alarm was held for about 3 hours for savage and overhaul.
Kudos to the men in black of the one house for putting 7 units on the street on the 1st alarm; with the following staffing, and this is a volunteer station.
Engine 1 (3)
Tower 1 (3)
Rescue 1 (4)
Wagon 1 (5)
Command 1 (1)
Utility 1 (2)
Medic 1-1 (2)
Kudos to the crew Engine 1 for their interior ops to hold the fire for the ladder pipe ops.
Kudos to the crew of Tower 1 for the quick set-up of the ladder pipe. I might scream and yell, but you boys were on you’re A game.
Kudos to the command staff for the outstanding job of utilizing NIMS that was one of the smoothest fires that I have been a part of.
Kudos to all the men and women of the one house all but 5 personnel responded to the station from home to staff units, assist in savage and overhaul, clean-up to return unit to service and the support member for providing refreshment before the second alarm units were on the scene.
I’m Proud to say that I am a member of the best fire house. WAR-TOWN in the middle of it all.
