The Social Network & Community JUST for Firefighters
TRAINS, WRECKS AND AUTOMOBILES.....
Can somebody please tell me what is up with people who think that they can still beat a train when the arms are in the down position and you can probably see the train coming???? We have had to auto extrications in less than two months and I connot figure out what these people are thinking. Anybody out there have any insite??

Just plain old stupid if you ask me! We had one here just a week ago. I wanted to ask the guy why he tried but he was gone...forever. What a shame, he was 24 years old. The engineers always say the same thing..."they just all of a sudden drove out onto the track"! I agree with Art....too bloody impatient. As Joe also mentioned...death by train! Stay safe my friend and keep the jaws of life oiled up!!!

One of my hobbies is train watching, so I've thought about this quite a lot. I come up with 2 possibilities.
First, people don't know that trains can't put the brakes on and stop on a dime. SOME people don't know there are NO steering wheels in the locomotives!
Second: suicide by train.

Yeah; it's called "my time is too damned valuable to sit idly by while a train passes."
People these days are in a big hurry and can't wait the extra three minutes for the gates to go up.
They would rather risk DEATH than wait for a train.
