I guess many people just know me as who I am today. Mother of a 4 year old little boy. He is my world. He is homeschooled as they won't put him in the proper educational setting he needs. They know me as a firefighter, a first responder and a friend. Those who ONLY know me from Tennessee may not know that this is not my first fire department ever. I have been with two others in the great state of Connecticut. Attawaugan Volunteer Fire Department and Old Lyme Volunteer Fire Department. Both were great departments to belong to, but I only stayed with them for a short while as I guess the timing wasn't right on my end. The firefighters with each were good people, great friends and excellent teachers. I guess you could say that Firefighting is in my blood. My Father was a firefighter with the Broad Brook Fire Department. He was there for most of my childhood. I remember one year going with him and my stepmom to watch him march with the rest of the firefighters in the parade, I was but only 8 or 9 but I knew then that I wanted to be just like my Daddy. I wanted to help people like he did. Little did I know then that dream was just the beginning of a life long search for who I am. Really am. I have come a long way. I joined my stepfathers fire department after high school, then moved and joined another one. I learned alot at both; life lessons and more. Hard training and deep soul searching were just a few. Now jump ahead 10 years and you will find me here in Tennessee. A member of the Stewart County Volunteer Fire Service, Station #10. Indian Mound. I am very happily engaged to a wonderful man. He just happens to be a firefighter also. We are both first responders. We spend our day doing the usual things most families do. He goes to work, I stay home, teach my son, feed and care for our pets (all 14 of them) and have dinner ready for when he walks back in the door. Days come and Days go, yet the learning never stops. Each time I respond to a call, fire or medical, I learn. I watch, I observe, I ask questions (after the crisis has passed). I will never stop learning about anything and everything. IT has been 10 years since the last time i was a member of a fire department and now that I have returned to firefighting I am still learning. In most cases at the moment it is refreshing what is buried deep in my mind as I go to every Junior Firefighter training class and sit in and participate. Nothing wrong with constant practice and refreshers. I hope that this little, well okay, long blurb about me gives you some insight in the the life people dont get to see everyday. The life of a mom, homemaker, teacher, future-wife, Firefighter and First Responder.
