Chief 601: Complete (RIP) He walked through fire, he felt it’s heat Yet never once did he waver. A Firefighter; he’s done his best, He showed the hot blaze no favor. When others called he answered - yes; Quickly, each time he responded During the day or if at night Never left callers confounded. So brave and strong, mighty was he One to respect and admire. He fought the fight, remaining tough 601: The Chief of fire. Amazing though was his soft heart, His kindness and gentle smile He touched us each in his own way Now our brother; rest a while. For in our hearts you still reside A part of the fire brotherhood. And of your last call we partake We grant you the honor we should. We give you love, and it’s with grace We take you to your final home And pause for your quiet goodbye But brother, you won’t be alone. We take you now on your last call We run with our lights on, in grief And at Ensley Fire Station We pause to salute You, our Chief. Carried well, to your resting place To slumber among the elite Your last call is done, it’s time to rest, Chief 601: Last Call complete. In Memory Of: Lewis Ward, Ensley Fire Chief 601 From 1972 until 2006 Written by: Melissa Sanders: Firefighter, SFRD
