Being Healthy and Fit Can Save Your Life More Ways Then You Think!

When my husband was working on the squad, he would come home with a ton of stories about when he was in the midst of trouble when someone from a very bad part of Jersey City had called for help, complaining of chest pains. Doing what a good team is supposed to do, they responded as they should. Once they arrived everything seemed very quiet, almost eerily so. He and his partner got out of their rig and started up the 3 story walk up, when suddenly from around the bend entered a group of 5-6 guys with billy clubs and bats looking for trouble.

They jumped out towards my husband and his partner as the two of them started in the other direction. My husband being in pretty good physical shape was able to outrun the guys to get to the rig, his partner however was overweight and unable to move like my husband so he ended up getting whacked in his back with a club.

My husband then how to run back to help his partner, fearing for both their lives he took off towards the gang. Getting hit himself but managing to grab his partner by the collar pulling him to safety. Both my husband and his partner were the ones going to the hospital for treatment, instead of bringing back the "heart attack" victim. They were treated and released that evening.

The point of this story. Several years prior to this event, my husband had been in his early thirties and was 70 pounds overweight easily. He was on medication for diabetes, thyroid issues, and high blood pressure. After having a heart attack scare (which turned out to be angina, thank god), he decided to lose the extra weight and get into shape. He started with a simple exercise and eating right and supplemented his food with a great quality, full coverage vitamin pack. He also started on protein shakes as a lunch instead of his traditional fare. What a difference this all made to him and his family. We now have 3 children that he chases around and still has energy to boot! Being healthy not only helps you but also improves your life and that of your time with your family. Get into shape, you'll be happy you did.
