How embarrassing! Imagine being on a medical call and in the middle of transporting to the hospital when all of the sudden the medic unit breaks down. Sure these things happen once in a great while but this isn't the first time. This is becoming a habbit for my department sad to say. I'm only on the fire side but I can just imagine what those personel feel like when this happens. Sure things go wrong with vehicles like a flat tire, needs a new starter, or something of that nature; but in this case it's worse. It's become a regular expected thing and in most cases it's more severe than a busted belt or flat tire. When it's smoking badly and not running properly, and has to be towed every time it's obvious that something major is wrong. What ever happened to routine maintnance? I guess my dept. doesn't believe in such a thing 'cause it would appear there is not much if any of a maintance progrom considering it's a newer model and we still have problems with the older unit too. Though I'm not part of the EMS side of the department this is still embarrassing, and they wonder why they have personel that hardly makes any runs. Who would want to make a run and not know wether if you'll be able to tranport cause of a break down and the back up unit also has problems, not to mention go on a fire call and God only knows what could go wrong with the fire apparatus considering the issues concerning the medic units.
