Welcome to Sher Cares ~PREDATOR FREE~ Safety Tip 2.

For starters, most people know there is a sexual registry for sexual offenders. Through today, there are those that are still unaware of what it is and what it does and who it is for.

At the end of this Safety Tip 2 I will give you a list of Sexual Offender Registries State by State.

The registries were designed to keep track of the sexual predators and at the same time allowing you as a citizen and neighbor and parent or other concerned citizen to know who is on the list and who is living in your area.

It is here that I must stop and caution each of you to stop and think. Just because you go to your state and look up who lives in your area, and keep you family informed isn't the whole picture.

The Sexual Offender Registry works for those that are incarcerated and get out and "want" to follow the rules layed down for them by the courts.

It is alarming on a national basis to know how many of the offenders that are out there that "don't" register and/or follow the rules.

Because you don't see anyone on the list that lives in your neighborhood, doesn't mean that there isn't anyone in your area, it only means that there is no one registered be it legally or avoiding the proper rules and guidelines.

The Registry is a great tool, for you to stay alert and open your eyes, and be aware of what is going on in your surroundings. It's not Fool Proof!. There are those predators that are released back into society and they do no follow the rules, do not register, and are on the loose.

When a predator is released back into our society and our streets they are to register in the area where they live with the local authorities in that community, and please know that there are many that DO NOT REGISTER, as they think they can fly under the radar and will never be caught.

It is up to us as parents, communities, authorities, to keep an eye on what is going on around us and stay informed. The registry is not designed for a place for us to go to find who is and who isn't and then know where to go to harrass someone that is on the list. Do not use the lists to harass and intimidate anyone. Use the list to be aware, keep your eyes opened, and watch to see they are following the rules.

If you feel someone is violating the rules, then contact the proper authorities, or us, or another organization and we'll work with you to help you get the matter resolved.

In closing, if you see anything or anyone that looks suspicious, please contact someone in authority for help and assistance. The law enforcement community is here to help you, but there are not enough officers out there to see all things at all times.
