Frequent Flyers: Stories of Repitition

Ok, everyone. I know all of you in the EMS services have them. The frequent flyers who call every day or every shift and cause immediate stress reactions when the address is announced. What is it THIS time? Why do they call EVERY shift? It's easy sometimes to lose your cool and your professionalism with these patients. It's even harder sometimes to remember that every call to these patients could actually be a real emergency. Complacency kills. How many of these calls have you made? How many of them have been true emergencies. How many times could these patients have been transported by taxi? How many times have you worked a code on these patients?
We have a number of frequent flyers in our town. There is at least 1 in every district. Some of them are really sick people who have real problems and some of them are hypochondriacs who want attention. Sometimes the calls are aggravating and sometimes they are comical.
So, let's here it. Submit your best stories of frequent flyers, whether funny or serious. Let's learn from each other and laugh with each other about the frequent flyers. Remember, don't include any identifying informations. Gotta keep up that HIPPA promise.

We have a frequent flyer that calls the ambulance when they get lonely. Usually they are complaining of difficulty breathing, but when you get there, their bags are packed and they are ready to go. If that is not bad enough, they certainly are thankful for the time you spent with them (30+ min drive to the hospital). You will be yelled at, cussed out, and they have even tried throwing things at the providers. And they hate the ER nurses even more.

We have a couple of frequent fliers here. Most have psych issues, a few are alcoholics. They all have minor health issues but nothing that needs an ambulance! This week, one of our regulars came in with a headache from looking at the sun.

And people wonder why it takes an hour to be seen in the ER!
