IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT USES 5 INCH HOSE CLAMPS? WE HAVE GOTTEN A NEW ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF WHO IS SET ON USING THIS TOOL. I HAVE FOUND INCIDENTS ON THE SECRET LIST OF POTENTIAL INJURIES AND INJURIES THAT HAVE OCCURED DUE TO THIS. SO I AM ASKING IF YOU HAVE TRIED THEM OR USED THEM PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND LET ME KNOW THE GOOD AND BAD. THEY WONT LISTEN TO ME FOR HELL I AM ONLY A CAPTAIN...

It takes just as long to place the LDH hose clamp as it does for the engineer to pull, break, and connect the 5-inch to the intake. Add the time to unclamp the hose, and it actually takes longer to get water to the pump if you use the hose clamp. It doesn't get the hydrant firefighter off the hydrant any quicker, and the clamps are heavy, bulky, and take up valuable space on the engine.

Good luck finding a department that actually uses 5-inch hose clamps - I don't know of any department that practices this. If one does, this is the place to find it.

he wants them used on a forward lay, placed on the line by the pump operator, then the line charged and the pump operator to unscrew the clamp to get water.

in what way does he use it my old department and current one have them on the rigs but the only time weve used it is if the hydrant stem broke and we needed to un hook from the engine
